FIRST THING:  Check out Choice Boards

Found this one on one of my ISTE forums. Two professors from UMass Amherst,  Robert W. Maloy & Torrey Trust, produced Choice Boards for launching student-centered explorations in Social Studies and across the curriculum. There’s also a cool Science and Tech Board, so it’s not just for humanities teachers! I’ve created copies of them for WLA and placed them in a Choice Boards sub-folder within our new UnicornHerd-WLA Master folder.

And don’t forget to make your choice next Tuesday, November 3, so ALL of our voices are heard loud and clear this election season! To get you and your students excited, here is a bonus thing (Thing 1.5) – The Voting Rights collection from PBS Learning Media. Sorry for the late find on this one. It was buried in one of my many ed tech newsletters.

SECOND THING: Split Screen on Chromebooks (The Easy Way!)

Huge shout to the Marvelous Ms. Menard for this one! A week or so ago she sent me this super short video from a fellow educator on Instagram. In it she shows how crazy easy it is for kids to split their windows on their chromebooks – putting Zoom on one side and their chrome browser tabs on the other. Maybe some of you knew this one already…but I sure didn’t!

THIRD THING: Use your iPhone as a Document Camera on Zoom

We mentioned at the start of the year that you could use your iPhone as a document camera using a gooseneck style stand or tripod. You can then share your iPhone camera directly on Zoom using Share your screen. Here is a quick, simple YouTube video that walks you through the process.
